March 30, 2017: Sports & Americana Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/30/2017
Offered here is an unusual lot from one of the most popular reprint efforts by Topps ever, the 1953 Topps Reprint Series that was produced in 1991. This unique “Hot Box” features 36 unopened packs, with each pack featuring a minimum of one Hall of Famer visible on either the top or the bottom. Given the slightly translucent nature of the Topps packaging that year for the Archives Series, players are easily identifiable on the top and (many) bottom cards. All of the packs are Near-Mint to Mint and as-issued and untampered with; the lineup includes four packs with the key Mickey Mantle card, four with the Willie Mays, three Satchel Paige, two Henry Aarons, four Yogi Berras, two Whitey Fords, two Pee Wee Reeses, two Jackie Robinsons, four Ralph Kiners, three Red Schoendiensts, two Early Wynns and single packs featuring Roy Campanella, Richie Ashburn, Bob Feller, Hoyt Wilhelm and Lou Boudreau. One of the packs has two Hall of Famers visible: Ashburn and Mize. The catalog value of just the visible Hall of Famers exceeds $275; obviously, the total number of Hall of Famers would almost certainly exceed 37, but there’s only one way to find that out.
