Similar to an adjacent lot of football cards, this is your classic childhood baseball card collection, with the greatest emphasis on the 1970s and beyond, with almost all carefully installed in nine-pocket sheets in (largely) team-oriented fashion. While Topps and Bowman cards dominate, there are also samplings from food and regional issues like Post Cereal, Kellogg’s, Hostess and Johnston Cookies, the famed inserts and peripheral issues, like Topps Coins, Stamps and Supers. As in most such collections, the cards reveal what we used to call honest wear; another hallmark of such collections is at least modest improvement in condition over time. While 1950s keys can be largely Fair to Poor and perhaps a bit better in the 1960s closer to Fair to Good, ultimately more like Good to Very Good or above by the 1970s. That said, the roster of headliners is stunning, with literally dozens of cards from the Tier One Hall of Famers, including the likes Mickey Mantle, Henry Aaron, Willie Mays, Ted Williams and Sandy Koufax, to name a few. With Hall of Famers lurking on virtually every page, the massive grouping presents a real opportunity for a savvy bidder willing to poke through the pile for treasures. In short, this is the kind of lot that would have fit right in at the legendary Saturday night auctions at the iconic Willow Grove shows outside Philadelphia in the 1980s. As noted, almost all the cards remain in their original binders; the arrangement broadly by teams makes the typical chronological listing problematic, but we'll do our best to provide an efficient look at the curriculum.
