Here’s one for the ages, the iconic 1955 Topps Ted Williams card, the No. 2 classic from that coveted issue that features perhaps the most widely circulated portrait of the Splendid Splinter one year after his triumphant return to baseball after his heroic service during the Korean War. The offered card is in simply sensational condition, safely ensconced in a glistening PSA 7 Near-Mint holder, boasting sharp corners, nice centering and clean back. If such an iconic artifact could lay claim to any additional credentials for immortality, it came with the 1973 publication of the greatest book ever written about baseball cards, The Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading and Bubble Gum Book by Brendan C. Boyd and Fred C. Harris. A much-lower grade example of Ted’s 1955 Topps card is pictured on page 36 alongside this cutline: And we quote: “In 1955 there were 77,263,127 male American human beings.
