For collectors of the legendary Bronx Bombers, this is a must-have piece featuring the M & M Boys on their 1962 Post Cereal cards that were inserted at the centerfold of the April 13, 1962, issue of the popular Life Magazine. The cover of the magazine may have featured Hollywood royalty in the persons of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in their “Cleopatra” outfits, but the real royalty was in that 11 ½ -by-2 ¾-inch mailing insert with Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Fresh off their record-breaking 1961 campaign when the teammates battled each other through the summer in trying to break Babe Ruth’s 34-year-old home run record, Mickey and Roger were assailed with advertising and promotional opportunities. The Life Magazine insert, featuring the pair in 1962 Post Cereal cards virtually identical to the ones found in the more egalitarian setting on the backs of the cereal boxes, offered perforated versions of the two key cards. The offered example presents in Near-Mint fashion, nudged only by the barest edging around the perforation, confined to the advertising and mail-in flyer and not reaching either of the cards. This is a simply wonderful presentation of a key artifact from the popular food issue classic Post Cereal cards.
