Here’s a spectacular card of the legendary Carlton Fisk in a PSA 8 example of the quirky 1974 Topps Deckle Edge issue. The 2 7/8-by-5-inch black-and-white cards were a test issue thought to be limited to the Northeast where Mr. Fisk was fairly popular at the time and on the verge of upping that status dramatically on year later. The cards feature a blue spot-color facsimile autograph on the front and blue spot-color cursive writing detailing a famous moment, along with a newspaper-like printed entry, on the back. A unique die-cut border gives the edges a scalloped effect, which of course adds significantly to condition sensitivity. Mix in the dramatically limited distribution of a test issue and the ingredients are present for a monster artifact. Put the Hall of Famer Fisk front and center in a blazing PSA 8 example and watch her go. Only a dozen Fisks have been blessed with this grade and a mere 10 above.
