Presented is a striking example from one of the genuinely quirky Topps peripheral issues from the 1970s, the 1974 Topps Deckle Edge issue. The 2 7/8-by-5-inch black-and-white cards were a test issue thought to be limited to the Northeast. The cards feature a blue spot-color facsimile autograph on the front and blue spot-color cursive writing detailing a famous moment, along with a newspaper-like printed entry, on the back. A unique die-cut border gives the edges a scalloped effect, which of course adds significantly to condition sensitivity. With the dramatically limited distribution of a test issue and the portrayal of one of the major stars of the era, Reggie Jackson, and the ingredients are there for auction mayhem.
