Here’s a spectacular card of the all-time, non-steroid home run champion in a blistering PSA 8 example of the quirky 1974 Topps Deckle Edge issue. The 2 7/8-by-5-inch black-and-white cards were a test issue thought to be limited to the Northeast. The cards feature a blue spot-color facsimile autograph on the front and blue spot-color cursive writing detailing a famous moment, along with a newspaper-like printed entry, on the back. A unique die-cut border gives the edges a scalloped effect, which of course adds significantly to condition sensitivity. Mix in the dramatically limited distribution of a test issue and the ingredients are present for a monster artifact. Put the legendary Aaron front and center in a blazing PSA 8 example and watch the fireworks begin. Only 14 Aarons have been thusly blessed by PSA, and only 14 have managed something above this grade out of a serendipitous total of 44.
