Here’s an old-time auction lot just begging for careful examination, a boatload of autographs from the key professional sports that features dozens of Hall of Famers and major stars and All-Stars from different eras. This was likely a childhood collection put together through the mail, providing a great diversity of both players and printed material. At more than 100 pieces, including dozens of Hall of Famers and major stars, the lot represents a terrific opportunity to add so many items to a comprehensive existing collection or to launch on a new one. Baseball, Football and Hockey headline, typically on vintage or modern cards and postcards. With such an embarrassment of riches it’s difficult to select headliners, but a Western Union autograph cut from Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Nitschke is pretty cool, as are signatures from the likes of Harmon Killebrew, Stan Musial, Duke Snider, Lou Boudreau, Ozzie Smith, Phil Rizzuto, Fran Tarkenton, Dante Lavelli, Bernie Parent and others. The vast majority of the material is in a decent, mostly Very Good to Excellent or better condition, and card manufacturers are dominated by Topps, with a few outliers noted.
