While there are plenty of Ty Cobb letters in the hobby, this four-page handwritten example is a little unique and also has a signature graded PSA/DNA 9 signature with a full LOA. The letter is addressed to Doc Morris and includes the original envelope, which is dated Aug. 15, 1959. It mentions Cobb's failing health and that he "had to go to all-star game Los Angeles. Joe Cronin asked me to occupy his box and sent tickets, etc." It continues to "ask you to do something for me that's a 'dead secret." It goes on to explain that Cobb "met the most unusual person, young, redheaded, not too vivid red, but what a person. Met her in Cooperstown...she did her own hair, made her own dresses, dear girl, she was Irish." Cobb explained that he "would like to have her meet someone younger than I. Now she has telephoned at her expense, written. No chance that I could be interested for I am too old." Cobb goes on to ask Morris to send his letters for him and to receive and forward her letters to keep the relationship a secret. He adds, "So now Doc you are Mr. Post Office for me." Super impressive letter over four pages and could be matted and displayed in-full since each page is written on the front. It also attests to Cobb not really being the bad guy he was rumored to be. Cobb genuinely cares about the girl he met, but repeats several times that he has no interest because he is too old...really neat insight into the mind of arguably the best hitter in history.
