Offered is a spectacular example of the 1962 Fleer Football issue in mostly Near-Mint or better condition and with nearly three dozen cards in PSA 8 slabs, it is easily the nicest example of this issue that we have ever handled, with sharp photography and crisp red background on the front and spot color on the reverse. It comes out to a remarkable 94 percent reaching Near-Mint or better status and almost ½ of the checklist reaching Near-Mint to Mint. Headlined by 32 cards entombed in glistening PSA 8 slabs, the set boasts headliners like a PSA 6 Lance Alworth Rookie, Near-Mint Rookies of Nick Buoniconti and Len Dawson and PSA 8 blazers from the likes of Don Maynard, George Blanda, Jim Otto and Lionel Taylor. There’s also what seems like a largely unknown variation, a No. 68 Tobin Rote, with the variation having no red bar along the bottom on the back. And please forgive a bit of silliness, but is a “Rote Variation” an oxymoron? Both versions of the Rote card are included here, along with the scarce, short-printed unnumbered Checklist card. This was Fleer’s final football card issue in its four-year run in the early 1960s producing cards from the two professional football leagues. After issuing cards from both the NFL and AFL the previous year, Fleer reduced the size of the set to 88 cards in 1962 and 1963 featuring only the fledgling American Football League.
