Offered are three nicely framed early boxing prints from the personal collection of legendary film icon Clark Gable, pieces that were part of his estate and sold initially along with other household items and furniture by Christie’s in 2006. The prints feature famed pugilists from the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The elegant prints are in color and are presented in period, distressed-wood frames and under glass, bringing the overall dimensions of each to 7 ½-by-10 ½ inches, with the image surface area of each at 5-by-8 inches. There is some light wear to the blonde-wood frames, along with some modest wear to the backings. All three prints were published by J. McGowan of London. The three pugilists as titled on the prints, along with height and weight: 1) Richard Humphries the Conqueror of Dan Mendoza; 2) Henry Pierce Scientifically the Game Chicken; and 3) Langan the Irishman. Boxers had way cooler nicknames back in those days.
