Here is a fascinating non-sport offering from one of the popular Sunday comic strips, Reg’ Lar Fellers, commandeered to the cause of selling ice cream in a classic, 25-card issue that is equal parts charming and extremely scarce. The comic strip, created by Gene Byrne, ran in Sunday newspapers for more than 30 years from 1917 to 1947. The 2 ½-by-1 7/8-inch cards are printed in black and red on a light card stock with blank backs. The rarely encountered set is in extraordinary condition, virtually Near-Mint, with perhaps a couple Ex-Mt-Plus and a single card, No. 4, deemed VG-Ex by virtue of some light corner wear. While the mischief-making youngsters typically undertake a wide range of adventures in their suburban milieu, this time they are hawking ice cream, with “Eat Ice Cream Every Day” appearing at the bottom of each card.
