Presented is a pair of cool artifacts from 58 years ago, both attained by noted collector and dealer Jeff Fritsch when he was just 10 years old, barely one year before the official launch of Larry Fritsch Cards in 1970. A blazing Near-Mint letter from legendary Detroit Tigers Manager Mayo Smith on the official team stationery of the defending World Series Champions features an outstanding signature, as does an enclosed 3 ½-by-5 ½-inch black-and-white photograph. The letter addressed to the young fan thanks him for his interests and notes that requests for player signatures should be addressed to the stadium. Also included is the original Tigers mailing envelope addressed to Fritsch. The second element in the lot is a striking 7-by-5 ½-inch black-and-white team photograph of the 1969 Washington Senators, also in the original team mailing envelope. A total of 37 facsimile autographs appear on the reverse of the photograph, including manager Ted Williams, team owner Robert Short and famed slugger, “The Capitol Punisher” Frank Howard.
